The heartache of a Flare up
Flare ups and sets backs are inevitable because life throws challenges at us outside our control. They can be completly heartbreaking and demoralising when you are trying your best to improve and seem to be taking one step forward and two back. Gradually though they becaome wider apart and their duration is less, So whilst disheartening they may be, there is hope. Once you have ridden through it, you can reset and put into motion all you know and have learnt. So do not be disheartened, each flare up is an opportunity to learn, You can get through it and set your eyes on something greater. I have shared a lot of what I have learnt from my most recent flare up in spring 2023, in the Pain and Faith section of the site. Click here
Key Points to get through a flare up
- Be easy on your self- dont blame yourself or feel guilty, its not only not helpful but untrue
- Dont be disheartened- you have improved in the past, you can continue to improve
- Be reflective- consider where you were over doing it; work, stress levels, time watching tv and not using the mindfulness and meditation techniques you know are effective
- Dont fight it= use your energy to calm down the pain, don't resist it or try and resume where you were before,
- Build up slowly again- your baseline has been lowered so adapt your rehabilitation accordingly and build up from here.
